Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 - August 16, 1977) was an American singer, musician, and actor. To this day, he remains a cultural icon, often known as "The King of Rock 'n' Roll" or simply "The King." Throughout his phenomenal career, Elvis set records for concert attendance, television ratings, and recordings sales. He's one of the bestselling and most influential artists in the history of popular music, with more than 120 singles in the U.S. top 40 and over 20 reaching #1.
Presley had a versatile voice and unusually wide success encompassing many genres, including rockabilly, rock 'n' roll, gospel, blues, ballads, and pop. He's the only performer to have been inducted into 4 music halls of fame. Elvis remains a very popular but enigmatic star, and his legend has only grown stronger since his premature death at age 42.
